Animal Hospital Update: The Hazmat Team Arrives Guide
On July 25, Animal Hospital received a major update titled The Hazmat Team Arrives. At the heart of this update is a brand-new Secret Shift—a full-scale slime invasion that transforms the gameplay. Players must not only treat their usual patients but also fight to survive while being pursued by the slime monster, Slimebert.
Firefighter – New Powerful Class
- Unlock Cost: 1,100 Animal Coins
- Lv. 1: Starts with a blue fire extinguisher (auto-recharging) + 1 extra inventory slot.
- Lv. 2: Restores 1 Sanity point each time a fire is extinguished.
- Lv. 3: Completely immune to Sanity loss from fire; starts with +10 bonus Sanity.
The Firefighter is an elephant clad in a blue uniform, featuring pink ears and short tusks. Its blue fire extinguisher recharges slowly and automatically within the inventory, eliminating the need to run back to a supply station. This allows the Firefighter to turn the threat of fire into a means of restoring Sanity during chaotic shifts. The Firefighter is also a crucial class for countering Slimebert.
Slimebert and Secret Shifts
Slimebert is a terrifying new enemy introduced in this update. It is a creature composed of bright green slime, featuring two purple eyes atop its head and a gaping black mouth that extends deep into its body. It devours nearby players, causing an immediate loss of 20 Sanity, followed by a continuous drain of 3 Sanity per second during the subsequent digestion process.
Slime Shifts occur after shifts 12 through 23. The event triggers when Dr. Harlow steps out of the hospital to greet the Hazmat Team; a prompt reading The air is getting slimy appears as green gas floods the area. Slimebert can be temporarily repelled by the fire extinguisher but cannot be permanently eliminated.
Journal – Earning Animal Coins
The Journal feature, located on the left side of the lobby, tracks encountered anomalies, NPCs, and achievements; completing each entry rewards players with Animal Coins. As of now, completing all items yields a total of 991 Animal Coins. This is an excellent opportunity to earn free Animal Coins; players are encouraged to check which items remain incomplete before starting a game so they can keep an eye out for them during play.
All-New Skins Arrive
New skins are now available for the Intern, Nurse, Head Nurse, and Secret Agent roles. Players can purchase them directly using Animal Coins; while these skins do not currently provide in-game stat boosts, they serve as a badge of status. Notably, Banana Intern (Intern) and Agent Blueberry (Secret Agent) are limited-edition skins, so interested players should act fast—if you run low on Animal Coins, you can purchase more at the Animal Hospital Shop.

Firefighter is the Top Choice: The combination of an auto-recharging fire extinguisher and fire immunity makes this the absolute best build for the current version.

Prioritize Sanity Management: Sanity drains rapidly during events; stock up on coffee or mint tea beforehand.
Slimebert Survival Rules
Don't Pick Fights; Clear Patients Quickly: Clearing the patient list is the only way to beat the level, so don't waste time brawling with Slimebert.
Save the Fire Extinguisher for Emergencies: Use it only when your path is blocked; conserve charges otherwise.
Keep Moving and Plan Your Route: Slimebert moves slowly; watch its movements and avoid getting cornered in narrow rooms.
Resources & Long-Term Strategy
Complete the Logbook ASAP: Prioritize unlocking entries to earn Animal Coins.
Speed Through Early Shifts: Quickly clear Shifts 1–11 to encounter events and get a feel for the game's rhythm sooner.
Hire Sam: Spend $250 after an event to hire Sam and assist with the subsequent cleanup.
